Adhesive Artistry: SJ Jinxx and the Black Tape Form

There’s something incredibly liberating about working with a model you trust. It allows for a creative flow, a shared vision, and a willingness to push boundaries. That’s exactly what I found working with the phenomenal SJ Jinxx on our latest project: a visual exploration of black tape as couture.

This wasn’t our first collaboration, and that established trust was crucial. We’d discussed the concept – using black tape to create intricate patterns on the body, essentially crafting wearable art – and both of us were excited to see where it would lead. The idea was to move beyond simple lines and explore the potential of black tape to mimic the structure and flow of clothing. We discussed the shapes and designs we wanted to achieve, and then, with rolls of black tape in hand, we began to experiment.

The true magic of this project lay in its collaborative heart. More than just capturing images, we were forging art together. SJ’s insightful contributions, particularly her intuitive understanding of movement and posing with the tape, were fundamental to the final artwork. A profound sense of trust and openness emerged, enabling a powerful and deeply intimate exploration of the concept. The addition of colored light further heightened the entire photographic experience.

The results were beyond anything we had imagined. The black tape, meticulously applied, created a striking visual language. It transformed SJ’s body into a living sculpture, a canvas for bold, graphic designs. The images captured a sense of strength, beauty, and artistic expression.
