Sometimes, the best creative moments come from simply experimenting. Recently, I had the pleasure of collaborating with a friend who graciously agreed to model for me. This shoot was all about pushing boundaries and exploring a different aesthetic from my usual portfolio. We wanted to try something more intimate, more personal, a departure from the polished, often stylized work I typically do.
The mood was relaxed and collaborative. We weren’t chasing perfection, but rather focusing on capturing a feeling, a moment. My friend, usually on the other side of the camera, brought a natural ease and vulnerability to the shoot.
The setting was simple: a single leather armchair positioned in front of a window. The natural light streaming in created a soft, almost painterly quality. My friend wore a rich maroon blouse, the deep colour adding a touch of warmth and sophistication against the backdrop of the window.
The focus was on capturing natural poses and expressions. We talked, laughed, and experimented with different angles and compositions. The goal wasn’t to create something overly posed or contrived, but rather to document a genuine moment of connection.
This shoot was a reminder of the power of creative collaboration and the joy of stepping outside of one’s comfort zone. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most beautiful images come from the simplest of settings, and the most authentic of moments. Taken at AWOL Studios.
